Many people I know got gastroenteritis last year and it sounds awful! Some common symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting, as you said, jerri; nausea, low grade fever, crampy and painful bloating. But a person may also get blood in the stool or vomit, a high fever, dehydration and abdominal pain or swollen abdomen! This sounds a bit more like acid reflux or gerd, if you can feel the acid churning in your stomach.
