Does anyone here have stomach ulcers? I was just wondering what they feel like. I have a really hard time with stomach pain especially if my stomach gets empty. Is there something I could take over the counter until I could get to the doctor?

You could use any of the number of antacids out there in the stores. You may also want to try something like Prilosec or something comparable over the counter until you can get to the doctor. Don't wait to get to the doctor ASAP though, ulcers are not something to mess around with. You need them treated as soon as you can.

I found this article for you She says to NOT take Peptop Bismal or Alka-Seltzer, which can actually aggravate the condition. Instead, take Tums or Rolaids. Also, don't take any NSAIDS like ibuprofen, naxproxen, or aspirin. Quit smoking and drinking too (or cut down, at least). When you do see your doctor, he might give you an antibiotic, which should get rid of the bacteria that Log in or Register to read more… |

Yes you do need to see your doctor. My dad had a bleeding ulcer and had to have surgery. I don`t know the symptoms of stomach ulcers. I do have a friend whose boyfriend had a bleeding ulcer. He coughs up blood but he won`t get it fixed.

I had stomach pain for awhile and thought it was my irritable bowel syndrome. It is right under my breastbone and it hurts and feels like I am hungry at the same time. When I went to the doctor she gave me Protonix and said it sounds like an ulcer. I have been taking that and it has helped tremendously.

Definitely advice that you head over to see your Doc.
To really get rid of the ulcer you will need professional care and if it is a bleeding ulcer then it is more serious and all the more of a reason to get in contact with your doctor.

With an ulcer you get a lot of pain that you feel from you side up to your chest. If you have ulcers you should always avoid spicy foods until it heals.

You have to really be careful. My mom had bleeding ulcers and had to be hospitalized for a week because of that. It took several weeks for her to recover and she still has to take meds that help to coat the stomach and keep it from getting so irritated.

I had stomach ulcers when I was about 21. They got so bad that I had to eat baby food for about 6 months. They are very painful especially if you eat or drink something that irritates them. I actually stopped drinking alcohol because one sip would cause me hours of severe pain. I finally got them cleared up after 6 months on the baby food and have never had them again and do not ever Log in or Register to read more… |

You could take some Pepto Bismol or Mylanta that is good for a upset stomach and heartburn. Of course, if this doesn't work. you can also visit the doctor.

Your doctor may be able to make an ulcer diagnosis just by talking with you about your symptoms. However, to confirm the diagnosis one of several tests should be taken. First, your doctor may ask you to take an acid-blocking medication such as those used to treat heartburn for a short period of time to see if your symptoms improve. If needed, your doctor may recommend a procedure called an Log in or Register to read more… |

Yes, you take antacids but if it's recurring, you better consult a doctor just to be sure of its severity.

An ulcer occurs when the lining of these organs is corroded by the acidic digestive juices which are secreted by the stomach cells. my friend suffered from ulcer a year ago.. she had to stay away from acidic foods since then.. i think, it was due to the fact that she had an irregular eating habit.. she doesn't eat in time..
