How can you tell the difference between Acid reflux and just regular heartburn? I've been getting heartburn more frequently lately. It used to be just pasta sauce that affected me, now it's chocolate, sometimes caffeine, and other things.
How do I know it's not acid reflux? Isn't that more serious?

Acid reflux is definitely more serious.
Personally I would talk to my personal care physician and see what they say. Acid reflux can be seen when you are sleeping or at other times that you are generally just moving around and more in a prone position.
Again I would talk with my primary physician to get the final answer.

Acid reflux doesn't go away as fast, compared to heartburn. Also, watch what you eat, as you say there are food that triggers them, so it's better to stay away from them. And I would have to agree on the previous post, to go and see your doctor and talk to him about it.

I once talked to my doctor about having pains and they told me to take Prilosec OTC for 14 days. It seemed to help a bit, but I'm getting it again.
I will talk to them at the next appointment. I wonder how they can tell.

I thought acid reflux was the sore burps that we get, and heartburn is the pains that we get in the chest? Am I wrong about this?

If you have noticed that you feel great before eating a meal but then suffer from a painful burning sensation in the throat or chest just below or behind the breastbone, after you have finished dining, you could be suffering from either heartburn or acid reflux symptoms. Heartburn is one of the main symptoms of acid reflux and is usually associated with poor digestion. After eating foods that Log in or Register to read more… |

Based on my experience, acid reflux doesn't go away quickly after taking antacids and you end up taking a lot in an effort to soothe the burning.

Antacids normally don't work with acid reflux. People with acid relfux normally have serious pains that don't go away.

Are there any great OTC med's that work better (and are cheaper) than those that a doctor might prescribe or does it depend on the severity of the Acid Reflux? I would think they all work pretty much the same.

From what I know about acid reflux it can actually attack the lining of the aesophagus and therefore become much more serious than just plain heartburn. I have also heard that when you have acid reflux you actually burp acid up your throat which causes this burning of the lining. So if you are having little bouts of something coming up with the burp (not to the point of vomiting it Log in or Register to read more… |

Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux, which is an actual condition. Acid reflux is what happens when stomach acid is regurgitated up through your esophagus and heartburn is the burning sensation you feel in your chest or behind the breastbone. So one is not more serious than the other; they occur at the same time. GERD is a more severe form of acid reflux. Other signs and symptoms are a Log in or Register to read more… |

In my experience, I sometimes could't tell which one is acid reflux and heartburn. Both happens beneath my chest. My doc says its acid reflux.

Occasional heartburn is no big deal, but if you have it on a regular basis it may be the sign of something more serious. It would then be worth contacting your primary physician, as you may have something like GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

On the back of the phone near the bottom, there's a code. The 3gs is A1304 (the 3g is A1241). On the phone itself, the 3gs has the factory installed compass app. The 3g does not.
