Prilosec OTC has always worked great for me!  However if your acid reflux is pretty bad you should definitely see your doctor so he can prescribe prescription strength acid reflux medication.

I agree with you Soleranz I use Nexium as well and it works great.  It is not over the counter though so you do need to get a prescription from your physician.

I have been suffering from acid reflux for a while. I always took Ranitadine (Zantac), but lately I was suffering from extreme stomach pains. My mom who also suffers from acid reflux and ulcers recommended I take Gaviscon, and it has been a God-send. What I love the most is that it works immediately. At least it does for me.

I was experiencing chest pain and heart burn since a long
time. Intake of antacids and prokinetic agents has helped me curb this problem.
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI) is also used by some. I got to know that it is as
serious problem and should not be ignored by one. Intake of alcohol and
cigarettes can further add to this problem.
