My father, who is 57, has been found to have Alzheimer's Disease. We noticed he had been getting very forgetful but he came out to the parking garage from work and couldn't find his car. Instead of going back into the office and calling us, he walked downstairs and was going to go out on the street. The security guard, who is a good friend, asked him where he was going and my Dad told him he Log in or Register to read more… |

Thank you for posting this. A good way of fighting alzheimer is to encourage brain activity. Like reading, playing mind games such as chess, puzzle, sudoko. Also watching tv is a good activity that stimulates the brain. How is your dad now?

I'm so sorry to hear that your family is going through this. Unfortunately, I have had many friends who have had to cop with their moms, dads, wives and husbands going through this debilitating disease. It is very hard for close family to admit there may be a problem and therefore it's normal that most wait until it is very strongly entrenched in their systems.

I assist many elderly people who have the horrible Alzheimer disease. It is really sad to watch. I think the worst are the ones who are not completely in the disease yet. They are aware of what is happening. I hate watching that.

A very heroic act.
Now I know that a simple forgetfulness could lead to Alzheimer Disease. It is best to exercise our brain once in a while.

It is so sad when we see our loved ones "losing it" and it breaks our hearts to witness it. I admire you for realizing on time that your father has a major problem and that nothing serious happened to him before you realized it. Hopefully, you and his doctors will be able to come to the best conclusion for him.

One thing about Alzheimer is that you will be to make the living environment safety, so the patient will not injure themselves. This can also make life easier on the caregiver.

I know exactly what it's like to have a parent go through the difficult and sad stages of Alzheimer's. My mother started having early signs of the disease at age 63. Eventually she completely lost all memory. We just recently lost her at age 75.
