Does anyone know of any exercises you can do to strengthen your lower back muscles? I have been having a good bit of low back pain so I am looking for some relief!

I have pain in my lower back too. My doctor told me to do these…. You can lay on your stomach, put your hands at your shoulders on the floor and then push up your back. So you are off the floor from your head to your waist.
Also stand against the wall and slide down the wall to a sitting position, this helps your legs and your lower back.

Another great exercise for lower back pain is to lay on your stomach on and exercise ball. You totally relax and stretch your arms in front of you so that all your weight in on the ball. Just relax! It helps the back muscles stretch out.

I experienced the same problem when I started working in an office. Bad posture and sitting or staying in one position too long is one factor. I went to see a physical therapist, and was taught stretching exercises, which is also the same as Yoga postures, but one thing he made sure I do, is to stand and stretch every hour if you are mostly sitting down. Generally the idea is to stretch.

These are all good exercises unless you have fibromyalgia. I would suggest that you try swimming or exercising in a pool. They have classes where you can go and be trained by a physio expert. I too have back pain and this has helped me immensely.

You can consult a yoga teacher or a yoga expert for suggestions regarding some exercises to get some sort of relief from back up. I don't think that regular exercises will have any soothing effect on the pain.

The exercises are definitely dependent on one's physical ability, that's for sure. I love to do water exercises in the pool. I can do things there I can't do otherwise. The getting up to stretch is also very important.

Exercises are great but you should also do some stretching to help with back pain, too. My chiropractor reminds me that when back pain occurs, it's often related to tight muscles like hamstrings.

I keep seeing those commercials for the exercise type machine that you lay on and it lets you strap yourself into it. You can twist and stretch to your hearts content, knowing my luck I could manage to fall out of it but as anyone here used it? I would be interested in hearing some first hand experiences.

My husband was told to do the wall slides too. When you lean against the wall and squat down. Somehow this strengthens your back and upper legs. You can do just stretching too, stretching helps make your muscles stronger too.

You can try back extensions target and strengthen the lower back.
To perform a basic exercise, you should lay down on the floor with hands behind the head
and lift the chest off the ground.

If you do exercises only one or two time it will not remove your back pain. Best way is you can consult a yoga exprets. They can give you best suggestions regarding exercises.

I do have a back pain that I get from improper sitting. Relieving it with hot moist pack, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and finally, lumbar stabilization will help ease the pain.

The best position for relief when your back hurts is to lie on your back
on the floor with pillows under your knees, with your hips and knees
bent and your feet on a chair, or just with your hips and knees bent.
This takes the pressure and weight off your back.
Heating pads can help to relax painful muscle spasms. Use heat for 20 to
30 minutes at a time. Ice Log in or Register to read more… |
