I have been having some back pain recently in my mid back and my doctor is sending me for an xray to check for kidney stones. I would have thought that kidney stones would make your lower back hurt.

Kidney stones may not have symptoms at all. If ever, the most prevalent would be extreme pain not just in your lower back, but in sides and lower abdomen. The pain is sharp and often described as a cramp. In some cases, the pain extends to the groin area. Bigger kidney stones can also cause blood to appear when you pee. Kidney stones are really a big pain! I remember my dad used to have kidney stones and he would always keel over in pain when he passes it. I sure wish there was a way to "dissolve" it painlessly, or at least to avoid it completely!

In our family, we are told to avoid meat, cola and anything that has calcium or too much salt in it. Also, drink lots of water! You also need to stock up on magnesium and potassium.

I had been told to avoid tea in order to prevent kidney stones but I wonder if that is because of the caffeine content in the tea? I had also been told to avoid too many dairy products.

Well the xrays didn't show anything but there is a trace amount of blood in my urine so they are going to do some more tests although I am not sure what those are going to be yet.
