I'm always faced with lower back pain each time my menstrual period comes. It's so uncomfortable and unbearable that I always have to pop a pain reliever 3 to 4 times a day. I worry that I might become so dependent on painkillers…Are there other remedies that can be done to prevent this kind of pain? Are there exercises that could bring some comfort?

In my case, whenever I have my period, I just put on some heating pad on my tummy because that's the area I feel cramps the most. Honestly I don't really experience lower back pain during my period.

I understand, as I suffer from cramps both front and back. I use heating pads, take hot baths, and I do take ibuprofen. I try to limit my ibuprofen usage the rest of the month to make up for popping them like candy during my period.

You can try doing back exercises to build strength during the rest of the month. Focus on good posture as well – slouching weakens our backs and makes any soreness that much worse. I wouldn't worry too much about using pain relieves a lot during your PMS as long as you don't use them for the rest of the month. I save pain killers for when I absolutely can't take it anymore – look Log in or Register to read more… |

I had some lower back pain before I started using hormonal birth control. Now the pain in my back has gone away. I would try to apply some heat and maybe soak in a warm bath. Try to sit with a pillow behind you.
