I just got back from the doctor with my daughter. She had these spots on her arm. He told me it was MRSA or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. How could she have gotten these? How can I make sure she doesn't get it again?

Did he test her for it? Unfortunately MRSA is now in the general population-community acquired, and no longer just a problem of hospitals. It was medicine that bred it, and set it loose for all of us to catch. She likely got it at school, college or work.
How are they treating it?

It's a shame but yes, it's in the general population. My best friend has a grandson who was premature and he contracted MRSA while he was in the hospital. Now the whole family has it. Occasionally, my friend will have a huge lesion erupt on any part of her body. It has pus in it and it will rupture or she will rupture it and then she has to go to the doctor and get antibiotics for it.

There could be a possibility one of kids at her school may have it. You might want to check with the school to see if there are any other cases of reported Staph infection.

My sister works in health care and she was told that most health care professionals probably would test positive if a culture was taken from thier nose. It's scary, especially if there is someone who has a compromised immune system.

Sorry about my ignorance about the topic. What does MRSA stand for? Is it a skin problem? Or is it a fungal skin problem that is prone among babies? Thanks.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body. It's tougher to treat than most strains of staphylococcus aureus or staph because it's resistant to some commonly used antibiotics. The symptoms of MRSA depend on where you're infected. Most often, it causes mild infections on the skin, causing sores or Log in or Register to read more… |

Doesn't vancomycin cause some pretty serious side effects? That's too bad that so many bacterial infections have become resistant to antibiotics and there doesn't seem to be any new antibiotics being produced.
