I'm waiting on an appointment for a cholecystectomy-gall bladder removal because of gall stones. What can I expect as far as the recovery period is concerned-how long will it take?

It really depends upon what they have to do. If you have it done laproscopically, you will probably only be down for 2 weeks or so. If you have to have an open procedure, it will probably take at least 6 weeks for the recovery.

That's a long time to be off of your feet. If you have to be down that long you are going to be out of a job in some cases. I couldn't afford to be off of my job for that long.

If you have this surgery you can expect to remain in the hospital overnight and several weeks fo recover at home. In most cases, it takes 7 to
15 days to complete the treatment and can last as long as 30 days to fully complete.

Recovery is much faster and less painful after laparoscopic surgery tha after open surgery.
Â
In laparoscopic surgery, most people go home the same day or the next day compared with 2 to 4 days for open surgery.
You will spend less time away from work and other activities after laparoscopic surgery.
Â
In open surgery, recovery period is about 4-6 weeks. Log in or Register to read more… |
