What is a Gallbladder?

The gallbladder is a small sac found just under the liver. It stores bile made by the liver. Bile helps you digest fats. Bile moves from the gallbladder to the small intestine through tubes called the cystic duct and common bile duct.

Gallstones (often misspelled gall stones, or gall stone) are stones that form in the gall (bile). (The gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ just below the liver and stores the bile secreted by the liver.)

Gallstones are solid lumps or stones that form in the gallbladder or

bile duct. They form when bile, which is usually liquid, hardens. One

large stone may develop, or many small ones.

 

You can develop gallstones at any age, but your chances of getting

them increase as you get older. Women are up to three times more likely

to get gallstones than
