A cousin's kid in the west coast was diagnosed with Blackfan Diamond anemia. What struck me the most is the fancy name. This is said to be a rare kind of anemia, affecting only around 600 people worldwide. It's a disease where the bone marrow produces very little or zero red blood cells. It's not definite what causes this one, but a genetic error concerning Gene RPS19 on chromosome 19 is

Yeah, I agree, pretty fancy name for a terrible disease. Blackfan
Diamond. I don't know, but saying it gives me an image of a female

Poor kid! I have read that several kids with this condition have some physical deformities or heart defects. Some even suffer from an irregular heartbeart because of a lack of oxygen that runs through the body.

This is a very interesting info.  The doctors who discovered the disease have very beautiful names.

So this is a genetic disease, meaning a child is born with it?  So how is this treated?

By itself, the term "anemia" means low red cell counts. Unlike other types of anemia, DBA is a bone marrow failure syndrome. It has also been linked to a genetic
