An old uncle — my dad's brother — died 7 years ago from bone cancer. A cousin of his died from colon cancer a year after that. A granddaughter of his sister died of leukemia. The most common symptom of bone cancer is pain. Although the location of pain will vary, depending on there the cancer or the tumor is, and how much it has spread. For example, if the tumors are located in or near the joints, there might be swelling or tenderness in that area. Bone cancer also interferes with one's movements, and it weakens the bones which could also lead to fracture.

The type of bone cancer that develops in new tissues in growing bones is called osteosarcoma. And this type is the most common. There's also another type of bone cancer which is called chondrosarcoma, and this one occurs in the cartilage. And yet another type, called the Ewing's sarcoma, starts in immature nerve tissue in the bone marrow.
