I've worn splints for quite some time for carpal tunnel syndrome. Now it's starting to get worse during the day and even at night even though I've done everything I can. I have had the injections into the wrist as well. Is there anything else I can do? The doctor is talking about surgery and I don't want to have it until I have exhausted every remedy I can find. Help!

One thing that helped me considerably and was so apparent that I could not believe it was adjusting the seat at my desk so that my wrist was not bent when I used the mouse. It sounded silly but it works, the doctor told me that many times there is torsion on the nerves in the wrist because they are bent, then the surrounding tissue swells and we get the pain and numbness. Switching to a qwerty keyboard seems to give the carpal tunnel sufferer a little comfort. Thers is also medications like Ibuprofen and naproxen to help alleviate pain.

Qwerty as opposed to what-I have never seen a keyboard that wasn't the qwerty layout.
There are natural keyboards that are curved and split in the middle that give a more natural wrist position-try one of those.

I have found that just rolling up a dish towel and placing it in front of the key board for my wrist to rest on works amazingly well. I also take off my wedding ring now when I am going to be working for awhile because my hand and fingers tends to swell up some.

What is the cause of carpal tunnel? Is there any difference between CT and rheumatic arthritis? Thanks.
