My doctor said I might have to have an operation on my wrist because of CTS. I am not happy about this at all. Does anybody know anything about this operation?

I know that a lot of people have the surgery. I know at least 5 people that have had it and they are much better off. I would rather have the surgery then deal with the pain. Is your pain too much to bear? What kind of repetitive motion did you do?

Is the surgery something that one would need to repeat (how the lasik is done for the eyes is what I am thinking here)? I have never know anyone to do this but I am intrigued as I think the more I have to type for a living the more I need to study up (just in case).

From what I understand, there is a band of tissue that surrounds the muscles and tendons that reach from your foearm to your hand right at your wrist. When this tissue gets inflamed, it squeezes all those muscles and such and creats the pain, numness and tingling. The surgery is to go in there and cut that tissue so that it doesn't cause that pressure in your wirst.

The problem with releasing that tendon sheath is you lose some of your grip. It's not a great deal but you could also lose some of your grip if you don't have the surgery because of nerve damage. So you have to weigh the pros and cons and see which would be best for you.

I don't know if I have this problem with my wrist but it is painful every time I finish typing. I work on a job that requires a lot of typing so I guess I've developed CTS. Will CTS recur if ever I have undergone surgery but went back to my job?

I have 2 friends that have had this surgery and they said they feel 100% better after having it done. They were laid up about 6 weeks and said it was painful in the beginning but the pain went away slowly. They also had to go to rehab for it.
