I have carpal tunnel syndrome and have had some very painful flair ups lately. I refuse to have the surgery as I have heard so many horror stories. What other treatments could I try?

I had carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists while I was pregnant and my ob prescribed wrist braces to wear while I slept. They helped alot and since delivery no problems.

Some natural alternative treatments you can try that may work are accupuncture and accupressure. Researchers have also found that if you take B6 and B12 that may help to alleviate the symptoms as well.

There are also some physical therapy exercise that you can do to help it. I've had both hands done and it helped enormously but the surgery is not for everyone.

I wonder if glucosamine might also help to alleviate some of the pain. Glucosamine is supposed to help repair joints and make them more flexible.

A lot of carpal tunnel is caused by poor posture when doing certain things-typing especially. You should also look at this whilst considering other things, so that you can eliminate the cause of the problem, rather than trying just to treat the symptoms.

Yes, I agree with you. What are the exercises to avoid getting CTS. I am afraid I have cts on my right wrist from using the mouse too long. Though I make sure , I have the mousepad with where your wrist can rest.

Wrist Brace! The brace helps to stabilize the carpal tunnel in its neutral position. The carpal tunnel is at its widest diameter in this position and the nerve is least compressed. Wearing the splint at night is especially important, as well as during activities that tend to irritate your carpal tunnel syndrome. If it persist try cortisone injection to the area to decrease inflammation around Log in or Register to read more… |

Mild symptoms usually can be treated with home care. The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances of stopping symptoms and preventing long-term damage to the nerve.
You can do a few things at home to help your hand and wrist feel better:
Stop activities that cause numbness and pain. Rest your wrist longer between activities.
Ice your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes 1 Log in or Register to read more… |

When I used to work as a secretary, I used to have to wear a brace. I was given a cortisone shot in a couple of occasions, but that was no fun. Fortunately between the brace and the shots, I had it under control. Now that I don't work outside the house, I have no problems.
