Sometimes excessive stomach acid caused by eating spicy food can cause the feeling of chest descomfort.  Although I know that this is not heart pain, how can I really tell the difference?

There are symptoms that are specific to heart attacks, and if you are unsure what they are then it is wise to google and have a look. It might just save your life one day-and bear in mind that there are differences between how men and women suffer them.

Please be careful, because heart attack symptoms on men greatly differ from women. You might want to see a doctor, if the pain happens too often, or unbearable. With heart attack, every second counts.

It is hard to know what to do when you feel pain or discomfort in the
chest. Is it a heart attack or another, less serious problem? Because
chest pain can be a sign of a heart attack, it is important to seek
help and get treatment as quickly as possible.

I would rather err on the side of caution than to die of "indigestion" that turned out to be a heart attack. Don't take chances with things like this. It is very common for someone to deny they are having chest pain and it can cost a life. I don't want to be one of the "I'm not having chest pain" people who wind up in the graveyard.

What you are experiencing is heart burn. Heartburn is a burning sensation in your chest that occurs behind your breastbone.

Well with a heart attack you will feel a heavy throbbing on your chest. Heart burn wil just be a slight discomfort in your chest area that will have a bloatiness feeling.

I agree with Emmie here when you are talking about a heart attack it is always better to err on the side of caution and if it is a heart attack the sooner it is treated the less permanent damage will be done. Just a side note women are much more likely to die of their first heart attack than men so women should definitely have all chest pain checked out by a doctor.

Well having had by-pass surgery and a heart attack I can tell you it doesn't always come with heartburn or a feeling of indigestion although those can be signs.  Mine started as a numbness and tightness in my left shoulder that went up into my jaw and down my left arm.

However, if you are feeling a bout of indigestion that nothing seems to help then I would suggest you see your

If you suffer chest pain, particularly while exercising, you will
almost certainly wonder whether it might be heart-related — and well you
should. Heart muscle pain — angina — is likely to be the first warning of
blocked coronary arteries.

The pain generally goes away when you stop exerting yourself, and it
frequently isn't especially severe — which is,

It is better to consult a doctor because there may be probably many reason for this. Over exeression is also a reason for this. SInce you hgave this problem while exercising then it might be due to wrong exercising method.

In my case , when i consulted a doctor it was due to over-exercise . But i will advice everyone to consult doctor if you get chest pain and remove doubts.

It's always best to have chest pain checked out, just in case it's a heart attack or pulmonary embolism, instead of something like heartburn.  I once had some chest pain issues that were diagnosed as stress-related muscle spasms, but it was very scary.
