I give blood on a regular basis. I always call the number to check my cholesterol level. I`m usually between 200 and 250. My doctor says that`s not really high enough for medication. Any advice?

Watch what you eat and try to avoid most of your processed foods. Drink more water and exercise regularly. Those should all help bring it down.

I would really try to control your cholesterol through diet and exercise. You don't want to be on medicine if you don't have to. There are some nasty side effects to some of the cholesterol lowering drugs. Ideally your cholesterol should be under 200.

I agree with the above advice. I'm on atorvastatin and believe me you don't want to take cholesterol meds if you don't have to. It makes me feel really bad sometimes. My doctor says there is nothing we can do about it since I have a genetic propensity for high blood cholesterol. I am going to try to get him to switch me to another one the next time I go to his office.

Go running. It's the best exercise that can lower your cholesterol. Also watch what you eat. Stay away from chicken skins, and oily food.

I have never heard of side effects to cholesterol medication. What kind of side effects are there? I will be talking to my doctor about this but it is news to me.

I agree with what the others here have said. Try your best to lower your cholesterol without medication because the side effects from these drugs can make you feel really bad. Some ways you can lower your cholesterol is to avoid fatty, fried, and greasy foods these are the ones that are usually full of transfats. Losing weight can work wonders for lowering your cholesterol levels. Try to Log in or Register to read more… |
