My mom suffered from CFS some years ago.

CFS is more than just extreme exhaustion.  There are telltale signs to know that what you have is already CFS. Common symptoms include:

+ sudden severe fatigue that typically follows a flu-like illness

+ sleep that fails to recharge you

+ muscle and joint aches (minus the swelling)

+ intense headaches that change

There are also unrelated infectious diseases that could lead to fatigue. These include pneumonia, bronchitis and diarrhea.

I think Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is related to some emotional or psychological issues, resulting in generalized feeling of tiredness or exhaustion that is not relieved by sleep. I've heard that it may be caused by some deficiency in a vitamin or mineral?

There is currently no cure for CFS. Instead, the symptoms are treated. Many people with CFS experience depression and other psychological problems that may improve with treatment.
