What are the first symptoms of Crohn's disease? I have a friend who has been having a lot of stomach problems and they think it might be Crohn's. How do they test for something like this?

I think that it requires a biopsy of the intestines, taken by endoscopy. Not a very nice procedure but very necessary for the diagnosis of the condition. You need diagnosis so that you can find a proper diet.

Wouldn't that be by colonoscopy? I think endoscopy goes down the throat for the upper intestines and the aesophegaus (sp?).

Abdominal pain is one of the main symptoms associated with Crohn's disease. Also rectal bleeding, weight loss,
arthritis, skin problems, and fever may also occur.

Abdominal pain is definitely one of the main symptoms. You should also look out for lack of appetite and general gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea and constipation. Weight loss will consequently follow (but make sure you do not wait that long!)

Chronic diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain, and just general gastrointestinal discomfort are the most common signs of Chrohn's disease but I am pretty sure the only way they can definitively diagnose it is through biopsy.
