I have had a small, flat, white-ish spot in my mouth for about a week now. It hurts terribly, though lately it seems to be hurting a little less though that may just be me getting used to it. What might this be? I heard "mouth cancer" and now I'm terrified.

Relax it's probably not cancer. It could be a canker sore or an infection of some sort. Have you tried rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water? If it doesn't go away in a couple of more days see your doctor or dentist but don't jump right to cancer.

I actually have a similar spot, too, inside my right cheek. It has been there for several days now and yes it hurts. I've had such spot before and it went away by itself…I have a feeling that the spot in your mouth is only a canker sore.

It sounds like a canker sore to me, nothing to worry about. I get them fairly often and man do they hurt. You can try to put some oral numbing gel on it and swish some warm salt water around your mouth. Mine usually last less than two weeks. I know it's painful!

I haven't tried rinsing with salt water – I can deal with the pain, it's the implication that bothers me. The only reason I'm worried is because I have been smoking a lot lately, and because it has persisted more than a week (cankers seem to go away after just a few days for me). Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel less worried now. I'll give it a few more days before Log in or Register to read more… |

It sounds like a canker sore. Â Especially if the pain subsides after a few days and then it eventually goes away. Â Have you been smoking a lot lately because you are stressed?

Lesions of the skin can be divided into two main categories: primary and secondary. Primary skin lesions involve a variation in color or texture of the affected skin. Many primary lesions, such as moles and birthmarks, are present at birth.
Primary skin lesions can also be acquired over time. Some primary skin lesions, such as acne or warts, are caused by disease. Other possible causes Log in or Register to read more… |
