Sounds as if they are grinding their teeth in their sleep. Also known as bruxism. I suggest having the person see their dentist. The dentist will take impressions of the teeth and make a mouth guard for the person to wear while they sleep. I do not recommend the sport mouth guards you can buy at your local Wal-Mart.

Having a root canal can mean several visits to your dentist. If you
mean that after the treatment was started your tooth sustained trauma

it is loose or wobbly, the chances are much higher that it would have
to be removed. Your dentist can have x-rays taken and judge best on the
situation.
