Can diabetes be reversed through diet and exercise? I have heard that some people may be able to come off the medications with proper diet, exercise, and weight loss?

Depends on what type of diabetes you have if it's type one then no it's a lifetime thing. Type 2 however can be reversed in some cases by cutting out high carbohydrate foods, losing some weight, and exercising regularly.

But I think that unfortunately if you have type 1 diabetes although you can control it some, you still have to take insulin shots and it will not go away. But type 2 I think you can definitely control via diet and exercise.

Well like Isabelle said it depends on what type you have. Type 1 no you will always have to have insulin. Type 2 though or adult onset diabetes can't really be reversed but it can be treated through weight loss, diet , and exercise and managed fairly well if you are committed to the plan your nutritionist and physician lay out for you.

I think that it's wrong to say reversed or cured. Â diabetes is a lifelong disease and you have it. Â You can manage it effectively, but you can never rid of it.

This is certainly possible. People see amazing transformations after just a few short months of dedicating themselves to a healthier lifestyle.

Once a diabetic always a diabetic…ask your insurance company. You can however come off many if not all the medications with a healthy diet and exercise plan. You can even bring your A1c levels down to "normal" but you will still always be a diabetic.

People with type 2 diabetes who eat right and keep fit can often hold the disease at bay without the aid of medication or insulin. But having a plan and sticking with it are two different things.

Type I diabetes is Irreversible. Type II can be prevented if you have a healthy lifestyle. If you think you are high risk of having diabetes, you need to be health conscious. You need to exercise daily and monitor your consumption of sugar. In my case, I seldom use sugar. I've been taking a natural sweetener for a few months, particularly a brand called Natvia, You can use it if you want, Log in or Register to read more… |

The best way to deal with Diabetes type 2, is simply not to get it.
If your doctor says you are boarderline, then lose the weight, eat right and excersize.
It is not easy to change a lifetime of eating disorder programming, but you will need to weather you have type 1 or 2.
