I'm 24, 5' 2'', and I weigh 180 lbs. I'm fat. Also, my cholesterol is somewhat high, though not too much as I was a vegetarian for a while. My blood pressure's fine, possibly because I'm a very calm person (most of the time). My question is, should I get tested for pre-diabetes? And if so, why hasn't my doctor mentioned it? I'm asking 'cause I took this survey on mturk, and it Log in or Register to read more… |

If you are concerned then you should definitely have the test done. It is a very simple test usually performed as a part of routine bloodwork.

My mom is diabetic. She tested my blood sugar level with her monitor after I woke up one morning. It was fine. If I were you I would definitely ask your doctor to test you. I think you have to fast before they do it.

It would be a good idea. If the test came back positive, you could make some lifestyle changes that could help you to avoid diabetes and the problems that it causes.

My mom is diabetic. Every time she tested her blood I also wanted to test mine too.
Cause you know what they say it is hereditary.
You can have your test any time you want, specially you are over weight so that you can have precaution for yourself.

There is no harm in getting tested. There's even more advantage to it. If you can afford it now, then get tested. It's better to know exactly, than speculate the whole time if you are , or not.

Normally I am not a fan of testing for things that you aren't showing symptoms for but this is the exception. The test is so easy that there is no reason to not to really, but at your age no, it is not surprising that you haven't had one yet.

This test is easy and for all you know you may have been tested for it already. If you know your cholesterol results you may have had other routine blood tests at the same time. Look back thru your medical records or call your doctor's office to see if you have been tested for a fasting glucose. If it is not out range you have nothing to worry about and if you haven't been tested you Log in or Register to read more… |

Having a prediabetes blood test is easy all you have to do is have a blood glucose meter and you can check your reading before you eat anything. Your reading should be between 70-100 to be considered normal. Regardless of whether or not you have diabetes now you are already on the path to developing it later on in life. Try to start reducing the number of carbohydrates you eat and stay away Log in or Register to read more… |

If you're seeing signs and symptoms then go ahead and get tested for pre-diabetes. Diabetes is chronic conditions that sometimes cannot be cured. But a healthy bodybuilding lifestyle can be a powerful ally in the fight against diabetes.
