I think it depends on if there is colon cancer in your family. Also sometimes people need to get them earlier on if they are having any kind of stomach or bowel problems. I have heard if neither of these apply to you, I think it might be 50 in males.

I think that is the guideline for both sexes. I hate to have it done but if it saves my life then it's worth every bit of the aggravation to get it done. Honestly I wouldn't mind if I had to do them every six months if it would keep me from dying of cancer.

The age to start having colonoscopies is 50 for both male and female unless you are having symptoms that are of concern than you should do it sooner. Personally I have never had a colonoscopy but I know several people who have and they always say it sounds worst than it really is. They sedate you when you have this procedure so you really shouldn't feel much but a bit of Log in or Register to read more… |

I know my inlaws have both had them done and my stepmom is about to have one this next week. They're all in their mid- to upper sixties. I'm not sure if they've had one done before or not.

The probably have, if they are in their 60s it is probably a f/u colonoscopy. Usually if you have a normal colonoscopy you don't have to have another one done for about 10 years. :)
