How can you tell the difference between tonsilitus and strep throat? Are there visual differences or do you have to go to the doctor to find out?

The symptoms for both tonsilitis and strep throat are almost the same. In both cases swallowing is difficult or painful and fever is present. With tonsilitis, your tonsils are swollen and very red. With strep throat the throat and the tonsils mayl be covered with white or yellow spots. Since both are caused by bacterial infection, it is best to consult with a doctor.

- Tonsillitis is infection of the tonsil glands whereas streptococcal
sore throat affects the larynx, pharynx and the tonsil glands.
-
Tonsillitis occurs once the tonsils get infected with a viral or
bacterial infection on the other hand the bacteria streptococcus
pyrogene causes a strep throat.

Wow! Thank you for all of the information! That will definitely come in handy once my daughter has another one of her innumerable sore throats.
