My doctor told my husband that he should have surgery to remove 3 hemorrhoids, of course he is scared! I've spoken to a lot of people and they said it hurts like crazy! My question is, how bad is it really? Will the hemorrhoids come back or once they are gone are they gone for good?

I have never had surgery personally, but have heard from people that have that it isn't really bad. Has he spoken with his dr about how bad the surgery would be? I would think they wouldn't come back after they are removed, but it wouldn't mean that other ones wouldn't show up.

I think it depends on the surgery and the person. Surgery isn't something to be taken lightly, but sometimes it is necessary, and as for pain, that's why they have medication.
I had a c-section, which is major abdominal surgery, and recovered pretty quickly, although I occasionally get pinching pains and still have some numb areas.
Good luck to your husband!

Yikes, that sounds nerve-wracking! Good luck to your husband, but I'm sure it won't be so bad. They'll give him drugs for the pain so that shouldn't be an issue. Best to get it over with anyway!

Yes, I have. I had a lumpectomy a few months ago. The doctors removed a benign mass on my breast. I was put under local anaesthesia, which meant I was awake but of course the my chest area was numbed. I felt sharp pain 2-3 days, but it was manageable. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and pain killers.
