Anyone else see the study they put out yesterday about feeding solids before 4-6 months causing obesity and babies who are not breast fed until at least four months being more likely to be obese? What do you think? Is there any truth to it or are we just constantly looking for something to blame obesity on instead of eating better and exercising?

When babies breastfeed, they control how much they eat; there is no way to force them to overeat. However, it's easy to overfeed a baby with a bottle or when spooning solids into their mouth and so baby learns to ignore the "I'm full" cue.

I didn't see the study, but I don't know why anyone would start solids before four months anyway. I do agree that these studies are a waste of time. In most cases, obesity is not a big mystery. You don't have to look much farther than a kid who sits on the couch eating chips, drinking soda, and playing video games all day. I don't think it matters when he was started on Log in or Register to read more… |
