One of the worst types of infecton is Scarlett Fever.  Many years ago my daughter was sent home from nursery school because of high temperatures and redness.  I grabbed a taxi and took her to the hospital where we sat in the waiting room for about an hour.  Then we were taken into an examining room with about 6 other patients including a baby.

The doctor walked in the room took one

Children 5 to 15 years of age are more likely than are other people to get scarlet fever.

 

Scarlet fever strep bacteria spread more easily among people in close contact. If a child carries the bacteria, the disease can spread easily among family members or schoolmates.

Bacteria are spread by direct contact with infected people, or by droplets exhaled by an infected person. Avoiding contact with infected people is the only sure way of scarlet fever prevention.

Yeah, I kinda echo JOshua's question. Does a vaccine against scarlet fever exist, so as to protect the children? And how common is scarlet fever in the U.S.?

Scarlet fever is caused by an infection with group A streptococcus bacteria. The bacteria make a toxin  that can cause the scarlet-colored rash from which this illness gets its name.
