How far has research for Lung Cancer came in the past decade or two? I ask as I am one of many that the C word has effected by the passing of someone close. The person went through chemo and radiation but was told it could have been one of three things to lead into actually getting the cancer. How do you (or can you) figure out which of the three it was?

I'm sure about the "three" things that you are pointing out. I think cancer is a disease that originated from radical cells. There is still no exact fact about the cause of these cancer cells. Knowing the the cause will help us prevent and even cure these cancer cells.

That's the hard part with lung cancer.  While people try to pin down a cause, no one really knows for sure.  We know that smoking contributes but there is no direct link to the actual cause that they can point out definitively.  My great-great grandmother passed away from lung cancer.  She never smoked a day in her life, nor did anyone smoke in her house.  She lived on a farm so wasn't

Unfortunately, sometimes it just happens.  Cancer is a mutated cell that starts malfunctioning and then takes over one system or another.  It's a shame that it happens but it does.

I also read an article about people that quit smoking and got lung cancer years later. I don`t remember where I read it. I am trying to quit right now. I also have a friend whose mom died of cancer and never smoked either. I really wish they could find a cure for all cancers.

Cancer is so scary for that reason alone. You can be fine, healthy, have healthy habits and you can still get it. I worry about it because there are quite a few of my family who have died from cancer. I try to be as healthy as I can to cut down on my chances but who knows?

What everyone else said is true, you can't really pinpoint where it came from. Even if a person didn't smoke they could have been exposed to something that caused the cells to mutate and form the cancer. Hopefully, with how fast technology is growing they will find a cure soon.

Is this the case with most types of cancer, the "one of X things" part that is. I never really took as much notice about it, but they say most people never do until it effects part of their life too.

I'd suspect that there are environmental factors that would increase your risk of lung cancer.  For example, if you smoke, that's one obvious factor.  The less obvious one might be exposure to second hand smoke.

Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer and mostly people get this problem from smoking. Avoid smoking and drink more water. Avoid going in polluted air areas. If you feel intense coughing go for check up.

As per me the most important and foremost cause of lung cancer i no other than smoking. Since a person who smokes more than one pack of cigarettes
per day has a 20-25 times greater risk of developing lung cancer than someone
who has never smoked. On other hand about 90% of lung cancers arise due to tobacco use. The passive smoking alos causes cancer. There are other reasons alos
