I just met someone with claustrophobia. I didn't really know he was until he just refused to get into an elevator. I found out that he took the stairs everyday to work, all 20 floors! What a horrible condition!

Actually not just elevators. Claustrophobia involves the fear of all enclosed spaces.

It's not really that rare. 2 to 5% of the world's population has severe claustrophobia… a lot more has varying degrees of the condition.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Matthew McConaughey also have claustrophobia. I wonder what they do if their roles call for them to be inside coffins or other closed spaces

She did. But she is a fine actress who could mask anything :) As for the symptoms and signs, well, you tend to be very anxious in tight spaces, you sweat, you feel nauseous. Some people faint.

Claustrophobia is the fear of having no escape and being closed in small spaces or rooms. This disorder can be quite life-limiting, causing you to miss out on things you would otherwise enjoy. Medically, claustrophobia can be dangerous because it could cause you to avoid having necessary MRI tests.
