What is the treatment regime for someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? I know I have it and sometimes it is worse than others. I realize the things I am doing are obsessive but I don't know how to stop doing them!

Treatment varies by person. The first step is to get a referral to a psychiatrist and begin therapy. The psychiatrist will determine if behavioral therapy and/or medication is warranted. Severe cases can require inpatient treatment. Good luck to you!

I have a friend who takes medication for her OCD. I'm not sure what it is, but she can really tell a difference when she isn't on it. I would think you could speak to your family doctor and find out what they think is the best treatment for your particular situation.

I think the best step is to have a discussion with a psychologist to identify or diagnose the real nature of your condition. OCD can be treated with behavioral and cognitive therapies, and these methods are psychologist – assisted.

Medications used for anxiety are usually helpful in treating OCD. Behaviour therapy has proven to be very effective for the treatment as well. A combination of the two is probably the best approach in many situations.
