My husband has been hospitalised twice because of his drinking affecting his pancreas. I always thought drinking affected your liver. What are the chances of damage being done to his pancreas after two times in the hospital? They had him for 4 days each time. Are the doctors able to fix the pancreas or did his booze cause permanent damage? He still drinks too.

I too have never heard of it affecting the pancreas. I would be very interested in hearing about this as my family were alcoholics and it was always the liver they had problems with. In what way does it affect the pancreas and is this a normal thing?

Drinking frequently causes pancreatitis which is an inflammation or an infection of the pancreas. Yes it can cause permanent damage if he continues to drink. It can cause someone to become a diabetic and causes further damage if they continue. It can cause damage to quite a few of the body's systems. Drinking in moderation here is not what I'm talking about. I mean drinking to excess time Log in or Register to read more… |

I really think that, if he has reached this stage then he needs to stop. Is there any way that you can have an intervention-help him to see the damage that he is doing to himself?

Is your husband , an alcoholic? Because at this stage, he shouldn't be touching alcohol much more drinking them. Can he still control it?Because if not, then maybe he needs to join some support group.

Rowena is right about the pancreatitis. The damage that is already done will be alleviated some if your husband will quit drinking and there is probably some damage to the liver as well. Just for informations sake your husband is ineligible for any kind of organ donation or tissue donation until he has been sober for a minimum of 6 months. We just went through this with my father-in-law.
