I am sure its been spoken about lately with all of the news going on but I am not 100% what would happen myself. We hear about it for the animals in the ocean, but I am not sure if say an animal could transfer it (whatever "it" is) to a human, who say was swimming within infected waters.
Empirically, there have been reports that residents of the area have been complaining of headaches, nausea and burning sensation in the eyes. This is thought to be caused by the oil that has evaporated or is being burned. On top of these, there has also been complaints of vomitting, irritation to the eyes and throat, and breathing problems.
Burning oil can also release irritants and poisons that can trigger asthma attacks in people. It could very well be the seed of a serious lung disease.
Burning oil contains carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrocarbons and other materials that are very dangerous to the lungs. When they get into the system, they damage the lungs, and then go on to Log in or Register to read more…

Wow that is scary. But I am afraid that that is not all there is to it. Chemicals from oil have also been linked to miscarriage and weakened immune systems. These also affect one's liver and gastrointestinal tract!
I think there are going to be many complications reported because of the oil spill. I think it is going to last for years. I can only imagine how the poor fish are doing. It is going to affect them for a long time as well.
I also think that the health effects on the environment and to the people living on the coast and possibly even beyond are going to last for years. They ought to have a real good idea of what the effects of a toxic oil spill will have on people pretty soon now. Such a shame.
I don't know what all the effects might be but you have to remember all the chemical dispersants they are using out there too. This stuff has never ever been tested before for usage in these humongous quantities and they have NO idea what it could do. There are reports of rain laced with particles of oil falling in some of the gulf states and there are also reports of chemical damage being Log in or Register to read more…

People living along the Gulf of Mexico are still
feeling the effect of the BP oil spill disaster, the
largest oil catastrophe in history.
