Hi there, I have been hearing about postpartum depression. Is depression one of the most prevalent post pregnancy symptom?

Am not sure if it is more of a post pregnancy symptom instead of a condition, but from what I know around 10% to 15% of women suffer from postpartum mood disorders, which includes postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety or obssessive compulsive disorder and postpartum psychosis.

The National Vital Statistics report said that there are around 6.4 million pregnancies in 2004, that means that even a 10% figure would mena that there were 640,000 women who suffered from postpartum mood disorders. Each year.

WrongDiagnosis.com reports that 400,000 women in the USA suffers from this every year.

As many as one in five women in the United States suffers from postpartum depressive symptoms, according to results of a survey conducted by the CDC in 2008.

That is sad news. What causes PPD in those women? Is it prevalent with certain age group, race, location? What are the symptoms of PPD that we should be aware of?
