One of my family members thinks she has this. Does anyone know what the symptoms are or what type of doctor she needs to see?

PTSD is a type of anxiety disorder that is triggered by a traumatic event. The person may have witnessed or experienced an event which caused intense fear, helplessness or horror. There are three groups of types of symptoms which PTSD sufferers experience: Intrusive Memories, Avoidance/Emotional Numbing, Anxiety/Increased Emotional Arousal.

Re-Experiencing Symptoms:

Frequently having upsetting thoughts or memories about a traumatic event.

Having recurrent nightmares.

Acting or feeling as though the traumatic event were happening again, sometimes called a "flashback."

Having strong feelings of distress when reminded of the traumatic event.

Being physically responsive, such as experiencing a surge
