So I have a question my doctor sent some of my medical information by text to another doctor and my doctor lost his phone. He told me that he had to tell me that he lost his phone because it may have had my patient info in it and the HIPAA law means he has to tell me.

Was just wondering if anyone has any insight on how to protect oneself from repercussions of HIPAA and texting?

So hopefully your not a spammer who wants to sell this tigertext info…Did you tell your doctor that you wanted him to share your information with the other doctor? Why do you want to sue exactly? Had your doctor told you that he was going to share the information via text?

Well, if a doctor violates HIPAA patient confidentiallity laws, one could sue, but what will probably happen is that they will get fined like these guys did:
