Pain during sex is called dyspareunia. A lot of things could cause it like if you have a diaphragm fitted in, and it's not properly attached. It could also be having your genital irritated by detergents, douches or feminine washes.

I had this, and it was caused by hemorrhoid. I was afraid it was a sexually transmitted disease because I was told that STDs like herpes and genital warts could also cause this.

I think the first thing to do is identify whether the pain is from deep within or just somewhere in the outer genital area. If you feel the pain is just in the vaginal region, then it could be lack of lubrication, genital warts, or simply irritated vagina.
