Many nights I have trouble either falling asleep or staying aslleep. I have considered trying an over the counter sleep aid, but don't want to take something that's going to leave me groggy in the morning. Has anyone tried anything that works for them?

Valarian root products can be hugely helpful, and you might find that they help you. They are natural which is important for me. I have tried them many times, with success.

I have not tried any of them. I read to get myself to sleep if I can't sleep. I don't think they are that safe. I know some people that have been addicted to them. Tylenol PM is the one that my friend started and had a hard time stopping.

Have you tried the Melatonin that is sold in health food stores? A lot of people have had pretty good luck with it evening out their sleep patterns. Also following a routine when getting ready for bed, going to bed and getting up at the same time every day also helps if you have trouble sleeping. It's called "good sleep hygiene".

Chammomile tea with Valerian root works well and you can also take benadryl to help you get some sleep. Any of these things will leave you groggy in the morning if you don't give yourself enough time to sleep it off.

I don't really like to take sleep medication because I'm afraid I would develop dependence. So if I find it hard to sleep I still do the conservative advice of the old: warm milk. Then I relax my mind by prayer and meditation. I also read the Bible till I fall asleep. No hangover in the morning.!
