How common is it to be perfectly fine as a child but to then develop seasonal allergies as an adult?

It's very common! Or so they say… Same thing happened to me. I was fine as a kid and then wham allergies as an adult. They are bad too! Driving me crazy! You should check with your doctor to see what you should take.

Because I suffer from allergies I've done a lot of reading about this and it's fairly common for someone to develop allergies later in life even if they were allergy free when they were younger.

This happened to my dad when he was in his early 50s. He was perfectly fine and didn't have allergies for the majority of his life. Suddenly he started reacting to pollen.

Personally, I started suffering from allergies when I was 10. However, my brother didn't start having any symptoms until he hit forty. All I could say was, welcome to my world and pass the tissue.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was never allergic to anything. Now I'm in my 20s and I have allergies. It seems like I've been dealing with allergies everyday for the last month or so. I don't know exactly how common it is, but I am willing to guess that it happens often.

[b]Allergies can hit at anytime in your life. Sometimes when it hits early we have a tendancy to outgrow it but when it hits when we are older it become a much bigger problem because our systems are not tuned to them they have a hard time fighting them off. That's why we need to see doctors at this time and find out exactly what's causing them and what can be done to help us live with Log in or Register to read more… |

I didn't sart having allergies until my early 30s. Now I've been suffering from them for almost 10 years. It's slowly gotten worse, and I'm finally making an appointment with an asthma and allergy clinic.

I would say very normal as it happened to me too. I have had a cat my entire life and at the age of 30 I became allergic to cats? Odd I thought. I have also gotten ezcema at the age of 35 ~ why not right? I already have terrible allergy problems!
