It seems that people who take antihistamines may gain a few extra pounds, researchers at Yale University in New Haven found.

It's amazing that 45% of antihistamine users were found to be overweight, while only 30% of non-users were.

I don't think that this could prove causation. There is a correlation between antihistamine use and being overweight, but there is no proof that antihistamines were the cause of the extra pounds.

That's my thinking too.  It could be that these people could be prone to be overweight, with or without the drugs.

I have come across studies before that asthma and allergies have a link with being obese.  It may be that they are overweight because they have allergies which they try to treat with an antihistamine.

I wouldn't be surprised.  Zyprexa causes weight gain, and so does a lot of other drugs.

What study is this information in?  I have never heard that asthma and allergies are linked to obesity.

I agree with you Rene i have never heard of antihistamines causing weight gain.  It's probably just a coincidence.

I take antihistamines for my urticaria. It makes me sleepy and hungry. I think this is the reason why those who take antihistamines for longer periods of time become overweight.

I don't know how true that article is? I would like to know from what medical journal that information was taken from.  The most common side effects from taking antihistamines are headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and sleepiness; nervousness. I have never heard of someone being overweight because of taking antihistamines.
