My daughter in law has me worried silly. She has a severe allergy to watermelon. She came in the house the other day and had eaten grapes that had been in a fruit mix with watermelon. She could barely talk because her throat was so swollen. I keep telling her one day she is going to have an anaphylactic reaction to it and have really big trouble. She hadn't even taken any Benadryl for it!

My sister is also allergic to watermelon. She won`t touch anything that comes in a fruit bowl that has watermelon in it. Maybe if you have your daughter in law talk to her doctor he/she can convince her to be more careful. Or maybe look it up online and show it to her.

I am surprised that last stunt didn't teach her something. You can't really force anyone to be more careful. I think if you sat down with her and told her how much you love and care for her and that you don't want anything to happen to her maybe she might listen to you.

Wow I have never even heard of anybody being allergic to watermelon before. If she has that severe of a reaction and wants to take risks like that she should at least talk to her doctor and get an epi pen.

How can we avoid watermelons during summer. The hot summer days make us run after something cool and watermelons and the lemons are the only answers to out thirst for liquids.

I was going to suggest the epi pen as well. I would think she would be worried for her life. Maybe you should explain or show her the worst that could happen to her. Maybe if you scare her, she will stay away from watermelon.

My wife is like that with certain things. She worries herself sick over me and the kids but then she won't take care of herself no matter how much I tell her. My wife is severely allergic to bees/wasps and won't go get an epi pen at all. I have talked to the doctor we both go to and he has tried to get her to go get one and given her a prescription but she doesn't think she could stick

I'm sure when she grow up, she will be more carefull. No worries!!! And try informing all the memebers of the family that she is alergic with watermelon so that everyone will be aware of food preparation.

That's seriously freaky. I have never know anyone allergic to watermelon. But I guess you can be allergic to anything. If she knows she is allergic, why does she continue to expose herself? Does she have kids? If she does, maybe you can get the kids to tell her they worry they won't have a Mom anymore if she continues to take risks?

I too have never heard of anyone being allergic to watermelon. That is a new one for me. However, I would suggest that for those who won't carry an epi-pen that you talk to the doctor and have him prescribe one for you to carry with you in case that happens to your loved one again. If her throat closes up that is a very dangerous sign of the allergy getting worse and one day she won't get
