Has anyone heard of a person allergic to his own perspiration? I thought it was ridiculous but I noticed that when my son perspires he develops skin rashes all over, especially his face. The rashes look like insect bites and are alarming. I haven't heard of this kind of allergy before so I wonder if there's anyone who is familiar with it.

Hmmm… that sounds unusual…I haven't heard of such allergy to one's own sweat.
But my daughter does get some odd rashes that look like insect bites whenever she has fever. And the funny thing is that these rashes are on her eyelids. At first I thought they were mosquito bites. But on both eyelids? The next time it happened I thought mosquitoes must really like her Log in or Register to read more… |

Maybe it's not allergy to perspiration by it's prickly heat?
Speaking of weird allergies, my husband is allergic to anti-mosquito spray (he experiences difficulty breathing) and to the powder they put on new rubber swimming caps (he got red, heavily swollen eyes after trying his new cap on). God knows what other allergies he could have.

Is miliaria the same as prickly heat? If it is, then that is not what my son has. The rashes are more like single mosquito bites and are scattered with spaces in between them. You can actually count them, like, he usually has around 6 to 10 of them around his face and neck. My reason for suspecting it to be due to perspiration is that the rashes disappear without a trace when he takes a Log in or Register to read more… |

That's very interesting kind of allergy, Warlock. At least it is easily relieved by taking a bath.

Yes, I used to put Caladryl (Calamine lotion) on the rashes thinking they were insect bites and it made me feel itchy just by looking at them. I still get alarmed when my son has them, especially when we are not at home and he can't take a bath at once.
